Word count after 23 days: 42,289
Shoot. I forgot to just keep plugging away toward the 50,000-word goal, and instead I spent today reading what I have written so far.
Sadly, it is all extremely awful. I mean truly terrible. Horrendous.
Here, for your reading pleasure, is but one small example of my fiction-writing horribleness:
"It has been exactly one year since the divorce was final. I remember the day so well. It was like I had lost a limb, but it was a dead limb that needed to be removed. Painful, but also a release."
I think when I was writing this, I was thinking "tree limb," but when I go back and read it I think "arm."
The loss of an arm or leg might, at least, make for an interesting plot, which is something I seem to have managed to avoid while typing 42,289 assorted words.
Anyway I was so dejected that tonight I wrote just a little bit, then I surfed the web, then ate Twizzlers, then watched HGTV while surfing the web, then finished the Twizzlers.
Oh! I left out the part where I made/ate two bowls of scrumptious potato leek soup. All is not lost.

Keep writing. I have only ever written college papers and the like but I remember, the important part is to get something down. The edit and revise the hell out of it. Keep writing.
