Anybody need a pencil?

My mother-in-law is always sending us pencils.

This is because for some reason whenever she comes to visit, she always asks me for a pencil. I never have one immediately available, although I always swear that we have TONS of pencils stored SOMEWHERE, if only I could remember where. Then I wander off in search of the pencils, fail to locate them, get distracted, and forget about the whole thing. Until a few weeks later when a package of pencils arrives in the mail.

There are a couple of reasons that I have tended to not keep pencils lying around the house. First of all, nobody in our house really likes to use pencils. We are "pen" people. Secondly, as a rule I do not provide my children with sharp objects.

Of course, now that we have math worksheets to deal with, pencils come in handy. And the kids are (I hope) past the point of accidentally gouging out their eyes. So, I am pleased to announce that we now have plenty of pencils available in convenient locations throughout the house.

Also, thanks to the organizing binge I have been on lately, I will be able to easily find all of our writing utensils and other assorted office supplies.

After gathering and sorting, I think it is safe to say that we do not need any more pencils:

Or pens:

Or colored pencils:

On a related note, do they really need to make a gray colored pencil?

Isn't that really just called a pencil?

This is just too funny!

I have gangs of pencils myself because I give them out as part of my business (I'm an editor/writing coach/creative writing teacher) and so my kids are always going to school with my promo pencils in their backpacks. Not the most "hip" pencils, but I get so many...

With pen envy,

nice organizing!
somehow my mother in law ONLY visits when there are no clean glasses in my cabinet. Usually I do a good job of keeping up with the dishes, but, I don't know. It's fate.
