My 4-year-old son is a man of few words. And he asks for so little.
So, when he somehow became convinced Santa was going to leave a rocket ship in his stocking, I got right on it. After all, it seemed like a simple enough request.
Wrong-o.
So far I have scoured Target and Wal-Mart. I suppose my next stop is the dreaded Toys-(backwards)R-Us. It just seems like somewhere, in some store, among the aisles full of Bratz, Transformers, Barbie and Batman, there ought to be a simple, generic rocket ship that I could purchase. Trouble is, the clock is ticking. Since we'll be away from home on the 25th, we're having "Christmas Morning" at our house this Saturday. I might have a chance for one more shopping trip, so I'll have to make it count.
I'm not into indulging my children their every whim. I'm just trying to keep the magic alive here. I'll build a rocket ship if I have to, but one way or another, I'm determined to make my little guy's simple Christmas wish come true.

Wow, you're not kidding. I was just poking around Toys (backwards)R Us online, trying to help you out and all I found was an inflatable space shuttle. Which is out of stock.
Do you have any independently owned toy stores nearby? I'd call them up and ask them. The smaller retailers always seem to have a more interesting selection. If that doesn't work, you could always introduce your 4 year-old to the music of Elton John.

Too funny--I did the same thing and found that inflatable shuttle too. Inflatable toys are pretty much always a bad idea, but that's a blog post in itself.
This morning my son was thrilled when I made a rocket out of Legos. I think I got carried away feeling like he needed a "real" rocket. I'll probably just make one, or I'll try to make one and botch it so bad that my husband will take over and create something really cool.
I didn't think about Elton John, but that is always an option too.
Do you have a planetarium in your city? Our local planetarium gift shop sells all kinds of space-related stuff.
I feel your pain. My son wanted Wall-E... impossible to find locally! Had to shop at Disney online.
