Thursday Thirteen #22: Some Favorite Books

Thirteen Books On My Shelf

1. You Can Do It! The Merit Badge Handbook for Grown-Up Girls by Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas

2. The Forest For the Trees: An Editor's Advice to Writers by Betsy Lerner

3. The Better World Shopping Guide by Ellis Jones

4. Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein

5. I'd Rather Be Writing: A Guide to Finding More Time, Getting More Organized, Completing More Projects and Having More Fun by Marcia Golub (I highly recommend this one, despite the excessively long subtitle)

6. Anything For a Vote: Dirty Tricks, Cheap Shots and October Surprises in U.S. Presidential Campaigns by Joseph Cummins

7. Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen (I like his ideas, although I can never seem to even get through the first stage where you "collect" everything in preparation for "processing" it. Anyway, every time I see the title it inspires me to get something done, so that's worth something right there.)

8. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (This is my all-time favorite novel, and in fact, just looking at it makes me want to read it again.)

9. Kid Cooperation: How to Stop Yelling, Nagging and Pleading and Get Kids to Cooperate by Elizabeth Pantley (My favorite author on all things parenting. Alas, I still yell, nag, and plead. Guess I ought to give it another read.)

10. What Every American Should Know About American History, Third Edition: 223 Events That Shaped the Nation by Alan Axelrod and Charles Phillips (A great overview, concise and well-written.)

11. Big Purple Mommy: Nurturing Our Creative Work, Our Children, and Ourselves by Coleen Hubbard

12. What Every American Should Know About the Rest of the World by M. L. Rossi (An interesting read and a terrific reference.)

13. Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance by Barack Obama

I have a couple of "What Every American Should Know...." books by M.L. Rossi, but not that one.

The only one in your list that I have on my bookshelf is Mockingbird. Not surprising really!
