Happy birthday, blog!

Yesterday was the one-year anniversary of my first blog post.

When I first began blogging on January 19, 2008 (I was just a kid back then--sniff!) I didn't know if anyone would ever read what I was writing. I was genuinely hoping that by the one year mark I'd have 10 or 15 readers.

The results have far surpassed my expectations. Readership has grown steadily up to about 150 visitors and 300 total visits a month. In the year since I posted "hopefully I will think of something to say" my site has had 1,162 visitors, 2,821 visits, and 4,984 pageviews.

More importantly, I DID think of something to say. Plenty of things! And now, instead of trying to come up with ideas, I often have a difficult time choosing between several options.

I have always been a "writer," it's just a part of who I am. But never before in my life have I written on a regular basis, day in and day out. During my first five years of motherhood I often went months without a single journal entry. Once I started blogging, that changed. For some reason this particular medium has brought out the consistency I never knew I had within me.

It would be a lot more difficult to write daily if I didn't know a few people were out there every day reading what I had to say. So, here's a massive THANK YOU to anyone who has ever visited Ruth, the Mom!

I have an overwhelming urge to sing you "Happy Birthday", but I like you too much to subject you to my singing voice ;)

Congrats on making it one year! I'll be celebrating mine on the 23rd.
