Thursday Thirteen #20: why I love my van

13 Reasons I Love My Honda Odyssey

1. Sentimental attachment. When our family grew too big for the Honda Civic, we upgraded to the dark green 1999 Honda Odyssey. It has since taken us on many memorable journeys.

2. Nobody would ever steal it. It’s old, perpetually dirty, high mileage, and beat up.

3. I also don’t worry about dings or dents, since it already has a big dent in the front, a scrape on the side and a cracked windshield. Inside, it’s a mess, with crayon marks on the ceiling and dirt, sand, rocks and crumbs covering the floor. I’ve actually found mold where one of the kids dropped food under the seat.

4. It ranks very high for safety, which is a major reason I picked an Odyssey in the first place.

5. It’s dependable. My van has never broken down, and has only needed routine maintenance since we’ve owned it. Since I have had a number of cars in my life that were prone to breaking down, I really appreciate this quality.

6. The van was very well maintained, at least up until we took over ownership. The previous owners had kept up a vigorous maintenance schedule and had all the records to prove it.

7. I never have to worry about being seen as snooty or pretentious.

8. There’s plenty of room for three car seats, two parents, and a guest.

9. Or three car seats, one mom, and two grandparents.

10. Or three car seats, one driver, two dogs and lots of luggage and boxes.

11. Or lumber and materials from the hardware store.

12. Or a bunch of garbage you need to lug to a dumpster when you move.

13. With a minivan, I can keep up my mythical “soccer mom” image.

Although it's true I dearly love my van, next week’s list is going to entail 13 reasons I’m getting rid of it. And not replacing it.
That’s right, we’re going to try out life as a one-car family.
Can we make it work?
We’re sure going to try! Stay tuned...

Sounds like it's one of the family. But then you say you're getting rid of it..?

we're also thinking of getting rid of our van(but it's not Honda) and get a car instead.

How lovely to have a vehicle you love! So many people have vehicles so that other people will love them more. You rock!

Happy TT

Nobody would steal it? That's what really counts in our economy.

You know, I'd like to be a "no-car" family. Well, I'm only me and Pixel, but that's not the point. I am so sick of dealing with cars! Payments, insurance, repairs. . .ack! '
Plus, I can't even drive my car right now and my TT tells why, it's got to do with a chair, no ladder, a coffee lacking brain and just plain stupidity!

As much as we hate that first dent or ding it sure is nice to get it out of the way and relax isn't it?

I remember that feeling of loving my car when it was new. Fun idea for T13.

I love Japanese cars. I've never had a Honda, but would have gotten a civic, if I hadn't found a cheaper protoge. lol Great list!
