I just read a great story about Albert Einstein. When a reporter asked for his telephone number, Einstein looked up his number in the phone directory, wrote it on a slip of paper and handed it to the reporter.
Dumbfounded, the reporter said, “You’re considered to be the smartest man in the world and you can’t remember your own phone number?”
Einstein replied, “Why should I memorize something when I know where to find it?”
I was delighted to hear this story, because now I realize I have something in common with Albert Einstein! I can’t remember my own phone number either.
In fact, I cannot remember any numbers. This includes dates, times, amounts of money, populations, mileage, birth weights, ages or my zip code.
Finally, I’ve got a great excuse. My brain is so full of brilliant thoughts, why would I want to waste valuable space on something I could easily look up?
