Thursday Thirteen #16: my drug of choice

Thirteen Things About My Caffeinated Life

1. My top priority in the morning is filling a teakettle with water and turning on the burner.

2. When my children ask me for something in the morning, my response is usually “You’ll have to wait until I have some caffeine.” They’ve heard it so many times that they accept this answer.

3. If I was as reliant on alcohol, tobacco or crack as I am on caffeine, there would be cause for much concern.

4. If my morning is so busy that I don't have time to make tea, my brain actually begins to malfunction. Even if I got a good night’s sleep, which doesn’t happen often, if I haven’t had caffeine by 11:00 a.m., I completely lose the ability to form rational thoughts.

5. On the other hand, I can quite drinking caffeine any time I want. In fact I have "quit" so many times I’ve lost track.

6. In high school my health teacher railed against the evils of coffee and told us that if we started drinking coffee in the morning, we’d become reliant on it. He was so right.

7. I have tried many times to stop buying lattes, so much that I even started a blog about it. Then I turned it into a blog about caffeine in general. (Then I got bored of the subject and haven't written anything new since June.)

8. The power of suggestion is strong for me. When I see someone with a Starbucks cup, or pass by a Starbucks store, or shop at Target or Barnes and Noble, or even just see an old Starbucks cup I left in my car, I want Starbucks.

9. I haven’t quit lattes altogether, but I usually only have them on weekends or vacation. And, I’ve reduced the cost by switching from vanilla lattes to a plain latte with sugar added.

10. I actually prefer Caribou Coffee’s lattes to Starbucks'.

11. They don’t have Caribou where I live now, so I’ve decided Starbucks is the best latte in town. Bonus: it’s within easy walking distance.

12. My father-in-law buys me a latte every morning when he is in town visiting. He always buys a plain coffee for himself, then makes sure to tell the barista the latte is for his crabby daughter-in-law.

13. If you want to take a foolproof personality test based on what you order at Starbucks, click here to visit The Oracle of Starbucks.

Holy crap, that Starbucks Oracle is so right on it's scary! I am apparently, a "Pseudo-intellectual" who can also drinks sparkling water (right!) and can be found at designer grocery stores (right again!).

Damn your accuracy, Starbucks Oracle!

Where do you find these deeply scientific, groundbreaking research tools, Ruth?

I completely understand! However, I get my 'drug of choice' from Mountain Dew.

That is so funny! It hit my son and I right on! We are lame, we order Caramel Apple Cider. It said that people who like America's funniest home videos drink that drink, and I love that show! And it said that person could be found at home on the couch, where my son is currently lounging! LOL

I am so with you on this, with one exception: It must be strong coffee in the morning. I only enjoy tea in the afternoon.

Thanks for the fun!
