Thursday Thirteen #1: things that have made me cry

Up until my first pregnancy, I was an unusually dry-eyed girl. Sad movies, tragic events and touching commercials failed to bring me to tears. I would cry on average once per year. In college it was usually during finals week. I’d get to the point where I was exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally, then have to say goodbye to a million people all at once, some of whom I would never see again. After all the action died down, I might find myself bawling on the floor amidst half-packed boxes.

Other than that, I didn’t cry very often.

The transformation began when I was four months pregnant and saw a Winnie-the-Pooh sunshade on the back windshield of a sedan. Tears streamed down my face. I would need a sunshade soon to keep the glare off my precious little one! Sniff!
A few days later I was cracking an egg and instantly started crying. That egg could have become a baby chick! Sob!

And so on.

After three pregnancies my hormones have permanently altered my brain so that I am basically an emotional wreck, or maybe just a normal girl.

And now, without further ado, here are...

13 Things That Have Made Me Cry

1. My son’s preschool class singing "M-O-M-M-Y" (to the tune of "B-I-N-G-O")

2. Finding out that my friends had received their adoption referral after two and a half years of waiting

3. The song “Heavenly Day” by Patty Griffin

4. Anything that reminds me of how quickly my kids are growing up

5. My little brother’s wedding

6. Onions

7. This video

8. These photos

9. National Anthem on Memorial Day

10. Taps on Memorial Day

11. Sad movies

12. Tragic events

13. Touching commercials

Next week: 13 things that have made my children cry

The time I beat you in Risk you cried, but that would be 14 so I understand why you left that off.

Dear anonymous,
You must have me confused with someone else...I have never lost at Risk.

When you throw the board on the floor before you're about to lose it still counts as a loss eventhough it doesn't say it on the box. However, maybe I'm thinking of the time you cried like a little school girl when you caught your favorite shirt on fire on the electric stove burner.
